INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION SPECIALISTS

IAARSFrom 1976 through the early 1980's, law enforcement personnel from across the United States and Canada were trained in Accident Reconstruction by the Minnesota State Patrol. The instructors were Myron J. (Mike) Lofgren and R. Scott McAllen.

Three day seminars were conducted in Minnesota during 1978 and 1979 for those personnel who had already been trained in accident reconstruction. During those training seminars, the idea of forming an Association was discussed, and then finalized in the spring of 1980 with the first officers being: President - Mike Lofgren, Vice President - Scott McAllen and Secretary/Treasurer - Rod Lundgren.

The initial membership was comprised of law enforcement officers from five states. Because of recognized talent in other professions, the Association expanded to include civilian personnel.

The International Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists (IAARS) has four membership levels available depending on the experience and training of the applicant. One level of membership involves peer review, which is a distinct advantage for expert qualification in court. Today, IAARS is comprised of Members from 33 states, as well as Canada, England and Spain and Singapore.
