ILLINOIS ASSOCIATION OF TECHNICAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATORS

IATAIThe Illinois Association of Technical Accident Investigators (IATAI) was begun in 1982 by six members of the Illinois State Police Traffic Accident Reconstruction team. It was the dream of Sergeant Robert Mulvaney to form an association of technical accident investigators in Illinois, which would provide continuing education in traffic accident investigation. At that time, letters were mailed to other investigators in Illinois, inviting them to attend a meeting in Springfield. The response was beyond the Troopers' expectations.

The first meeting was held in September of that year. James Hall was elected as the first President of the association and Bob Mulvaney was elected Secretary/Treasurer. After that point, meetings included training sessions, and were held quarterly throughout Illinois.

In 1987, it was decided to forego the quarterly meetings and sponsor a three-day annual seminar. The seminars are held in September each year, with speakers from throughout the United States. IATAI is active in testing and proving the principles of accident reconstruction.

The membership of the association is over 150, with participants from throughout the United States.
