UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI - MISSOURI SAFETY CENTER
The Center enjoys a staff of highly trained specialists charged with the technology transfer of safety programming for the State of Missouri. The Center has been a partner and contractor for the Highway Safety Division of MoDOT since 1967. The Center has four basic charges in its mission statement, the first of which Instruction, comprising about eighty percent of the Center's activities. Additionally the Center is charged with Research, Publications and Public Service. The Missouri Safety Center has enjoyed outstanding leadership over the last 41 years beginning with its first Director, Dr. Robert L. Marshall who remained in that position until 1979. He was followed by Dr. Robert L. Baldwin from 1979 to 1991. Upon Dr. Baldwin's retirement, the University appointed Dr. Leanna Depue who retired in 2004, followed by Mr. Glenn Carriker who retired in 2006. The Center's current Director is Mr. Terry Butler. The Center's administrative offices are located on the campus of the University of Central Missouri in the Humphreys Building. In addition, the Center's training laboratories are housed at the Highway Safety Instructional Park and Marshall Building located just south of the main campus. Within the Marshall Building is the statewide motorcycle program, the training center for traffic law enforcement and the State's Breath Alcohol Instrument Training Lab. In support of its statewide training mission, the Safety Center maintains a service vehicle fleet of over 100 vehicles. The Missouri Safety Center is one of the leading law enforcement training providers for the State of Missouri, specializing in the reporting and investigation of traffic crashes, including accident reconstruction, pedestrian reconstruction and in 1997, commercial vehicle reconstruction. |
