OREGON STATE POLICE

OSPThe Oregon State Police organization was designed by a committee appointed by Governor Julius L. Meier who had made a survey of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Texas Rangers, the State Police of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and other states that had been highly successful. Governor Meier incorporated the best features of these agencies into the Department of the Oregon State Police. The Department of the Oregon State Police began operations on August 1, 1931.

The department was created to serve as a rural patrol and to assist local law enforcement agencies and that same principle mission exists today.

Charles P. Pray (a former Department of Justice agent) was the first superintendent and announced the department's main objective to be a; "dignified and courteous law enforcement service devoted to the needs of the public". This concept has not changed throughout the years.

Our reconstruction program began in 1982 and has evolved into a very skilled and technical proficient group of individuals. The program is managed through the Patrol Services Division with members spread throughout the state and assigned to the various area commands. The Collision Reconstruction Program is one of five (5) primary support programs that are emphasized by our agency.
